For example, my physical health at the beginning of the course I rated a score of 5. As of this post, I would have to say that I'm now at a 6. I still have a long way to go, but we all have to start somewhere, right? I have actually been more motivated to get up and moving ( as much as my bad knees will let me, of course). I have also been able to control my arthritis pain somewhat by doing these meditation-type exercises. Now that the weather has warmed up, I plan on taking short walks whenever possible, along with keeping a food journal to help with my eating habits so that I can start losing weight.
My spiritual well-being is now at an 8. I have started to say a short prayer right before bed each night, and another one when I wake up in the morning. I still need to get back to church, though. My next step is to start reading a chapter or two in the bible each day.
My psychological well-being is still at a 9. There are still quite a few stressors that I need to learn to control, but the meditation exercises help me to focus on the more positive side of things in my life, and get a better grasp on the stressful situations, so that I can figure out the solutions to the problems that arrive.
Teresa, it's great to hear that these meditative exercises have brought you so many benefits. I found that I enjoyed many of these practices and feel as though they've helped me to increase my awareness and tap into my innate potential of promoting human flourishing. I seem to have made a gradual improvement throughout the course of this term; though it wasn't much, I feel as long I try to develop my potential, I can only go up from where I'm at! I wish you the best of luck!
ReplyDeleteHi Teresa,
ReplyDeleteI like your beginning statement about it being the end or really the beginning! :-) Yes it is the end of class, but definitely the beginning to our newly flourished selves. I'm glad to read that you went up in your ratings. As for physical fitness, have you heard of, or tried, tai chi? It's good for people who have injuries. Maybe there is a place in your area you live that offers it? If not, Gold's gym has a body flow class that is a mix of Yoga and Tai chi that I love! Anyway, just thought I'd suggest it. Best of luck on your journey.
Thanks for the suggestion, Heather--I'll have to check into that. :)
DeleteHi Teresa,
ReplyDeleteIt’s good that at least some things changed and it doesn’t matter how much a step is better than decreasing. My numbers didn’t get a huge jump actually only one of them changed which didn’t faze me a lot I was happy to have change. I think I would have also been happy to have stayed the same because it still takes effort to keep the same progress and not backtrack. Great job we made it to the end and learned so many new things which will assist us on our journeys. Good luck!!!!

Its good to hear that things have changed for the better for you.i hear you about church, i have been wanting to get back into a routine, i have made it certain times but not consistent. I hope that you will be able to get further along with your physical well-being and that you will be able to control your arthritis more. good luck to you!
ReplyDeleteTeresa,
ReplyDeleteI feel the same about the psychological score. I also rated mine at a 9 for similar reason. I think it is great that you have increase in your overall health and well being. I am also glad to hear your arthritic pain has somewhat subsided. That is a difficult journey to face itself. I wish you the best of luck! Thanks for sharing all your thoughts this term.
