After doing what I call my "self-awareness checkup", I would have to rate my physical well-being a 5, my spiritual well-being a 7, and my psychological well-being a 9. My physical well-being isn't bad, but it could use a major overhaul--I'm overweight, and have arthritis in both of my knees. I don't really exercise as much as I should, due mainly in part to juggling a crazy work schedule, kids, and school schedule. My spiritual well-being is a lot better--growing up, I was basically raised in a church, and enjoyed going to Sunday School and worship services. However, it's been a while since I've actually been to church, and I really should get back into a habit of going (however, I still have a close connection to God). My psychological well-being has gotten a lot better, although it took a while to get there. At one point, I would have rated myself a 4, due to issues that I was having with my husband at the time. In this one area, I seem to have proven the old adage, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger"--and at this point, I could probably bench-press an army tank! :)
The goals that I have set for myself in the other areas are to start watching what I eat, and incorporate more exercise into my life, which will help me to not only lose the weight that I need to lose, but it will also help ease the pain in my knees, and make me more able to physically do things with my kids. I also plan on going back to church, as often as my work schedule will allow me to do.
I really enjoyed doing the The Crime of the Century exercise for this unit. As I closed my eyes and focused my breathing while listening to this exercise, I could actually visualize the different colored rays of light emanating from my body. I really felt really relaxed--my feet actually felt centered onto the floor below my chair.
Hi Teresa,
ReplyDeleteIt can be very hard for people to juggle everything that is in your life and find time to take care of yourself. That seems to be the lowest on the priority list even though if we are down and out everything seems to stop. Taking the time for physical activity is really hard because how do we justify taking that time for ourselves. I had a difficult time with that as well until my children all grew up and I found that I had a lot of free time. I have never been a religious person but I think it's great that people have that in their lives and it can really make them feel good. It is amazing what we can live through when we never thought we would survive it.
Hi Teresa,
ReplyDeleteLove the saying what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and bench pressing an army tank (GO GIRL) I love to hear when people are able to successfully overcome issues which were going on in their lives. This gives me hope for my generation and the future of the different aspects of the world, children, education, success, and most definitely marriage. It seems like the fad these days is “if it doesn't work quit” that is not something I want my children to pick up. I always tell them and myself anything worth having is worth fighting for. My psychological well-being is very close to yours but I am dealing with it now. My marriage is in a better place we are young and I as I remind myself and him we are not going to have peaches and cream everyday but we have to take the good days with the bad ones and pray that the good ones outlast the bad. We have basically the same goals set in place it’s just following through with those goals. Great post!!!!

Hi Teresa,
ReplyDeleteI can relate your spiritual well-being to mine. I used to always go to church on Sundays but haven't gone in awhile. It's difficult when you have a hectic life, but I'm also going to try to get back into a habit of going. Watching what you eat and adding more exercise into your life are great goals. Great post!
Hello Teresa,
ReplyDeleteI think I had you in my last class as well as this class. Its nice to now more about you. I can completely understand about your spiritual well-being change throughout your life with schedule conflicts or for whatever reason you can't make it to church. I think as long as you are still spiritual and have a connection with God he can hear you.. if that makes sense.
I agree with your "what doesn't kill us makes us stronger"... I am currently working out of the "its not killing me" stage! I think being on that upswing should make us a 10! I am finding that more people than I ever realized have a relationship with God, but do not go to church. Life happens, doesn't it. :) It is the relationship that matters, right, the faith. I miss my church family when I am not there, but I am frequently not there! I also do not know what I would do without them.
ReplyDeleteI wish you the best making the changes that you want to make.
